Artwork Description

In this work I explore the quiet moment of looking. Two figures stand together in a gallery corner, absorbed in landscapes that seem to open distant spaces within the enclosed interior. I was interested in the relationship between the viewer and the artwork — how, while looking at paintings, we ourselves become part of another visual composition.

I used watercolour in loose, transparent layers to keep the atmosphere light and fluid. Rather than describing the figures in detail, I allowed them to remain simplified silhouettes, so the focus stays on the act of contemplation. The soft greens, ochres, and muted violets create a calm interior space where colour and light dissolve gently into one another.

My approach is influenced by the intimacy of French Impressionist interiors and the decorative sensitivity of the Nabis painters, particularly Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard, whose work often transforms everyday moments into quiet, reflective scenes.

For me, this painting is about the subtle dialogue between art and its viewers — a moment where observation becomes part of the artwork itself.
