Artwork Description

The Story Behind the Work
This painting began with a single image and an immediate, instinctive response to it. The pose stopped me, the upward reach of the arm, the weight of the figure grounded on the floor, the tension between stillness and movement. Rather than a narrative, this work is about that physical language: the way a body can express something that resists being put into words.
The bold, abstract background is not incidental; it reflects the emotional register of the piece, the colour and energy that surrounds a moment of quiet intensity. Figure and environment blur together, each informing the other.

How It Will Lift a Room
This is a commanding, high-energy work that will anchor any space it inhabits. The palette, featuring warm oranges, reds, and pinks, plays against sweeping yellows and greens, bringing heat and vitality, while the figurative subject lends it intimacy and depth. It works beautifully as a statement piece in a living room or bedroom, and would pair well with both neutral interiors and bolder, more eclectic spaces.

Materials
Created with acrylic paint and acrylic markers on high GSM paper, this work combines expressive painted passages with the sharp, confident mark-making that the marker medium allows. The heavyweight paper provides a stable, substantial ground that holds the layers of colour with richness and depth. As with all works on paper, framing behind glass is recommended to protect and preserve the piece for years to come.
