I painted this piece after returning home from my travels along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. It was inspired by a photo I took when I was heading back to my cottage on the cliff in County Clare.
Whilst staying there, I got to watch the sky change every night from my window, taking photos to remember the sunset, knowing the colours and clouds wouldn't be the same tomorrow.
In the painting, I wanted to capture the sky in this moment, on this night. I wanted to play with the colours a bit, lifting, stretching the icy Atlantic blue colours and hazy detail of the grass to capture the dusk-washed tone and mood of the memory, of the moment in time.
I titled this piece, 'Nearing Home,' because to me, it reflects the feeling I had that day, coming home to quiet and safety, with the sunset on full show as if to commemorate a beautiful day.
