Georgia Fox is a self-taught artist based in Sydney, living and working on Gadigal Land. Originally from Melbourne, she spent her early years growing up in a small coastal town on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
Georgia’s painting practice began in high school and has continued alongside her university studies and career as an arts publicist for two decades. Her dedication accelerated in recent years to reveal a distinct visual language with a graphic and expressive sensibility, anchored by a limited colour palette.
Often inspired by a line from a book, a song, a photo or a memory, Georgia’s work sits in the tension between control and freedom; thinking and feeling; resolve and uncertainty. Her vivid compositions belie an emotional depth and sense of nostalgia for the present moment, a brief respite from the knowledge that everything will soon come to pass.
