Artwork Description

Acrylic on Canvas. Now known as the Brunswick River, Durangbil was home to the Arakwal Bumberlin people, Bundjalung of Byron Bay, Northern NSW. 'Washed Away' touches on the way of life and culture that has been lost for indigenous people who once called this place home.

Artist Bio

Georgie River is an emerging artist based in Mullumbimby, Northern NSW, Australia. Her work explores her relationship with the natural world around her, mostly of, and created on, Bundjalung Nation where she resides.

Mainly self taught, she experiments using acrylics, oils and dry ground pigments, preferring to intuitively work with paint and create from a place of feeling.

Through a deep reverence and connection to nature her work acts as a communication between herself and the land, seeking to express visually what is felt viscerally.

Georgie communicates her connection to the earth and this land through her work - from the study of fallen leaves to the observation of sacred place, using a combination of acrylics, oils and ink.
