Artwork Description

Sky meets water - water meets land - from calm to frenzy - it’s a never ending kaleidoscope - an opportunity to further explore what lies above, below and beyond.

The continual journey into abstraction provides incredible freedom to make thoughtful deliberate or spontaneous marks on the canvas. Armed with an array of mixed media another experience evolves and the excitement of the unknown continues until a resolve is met.

The work combines elements of ocean, river inlet, sand dunes, rocks and underwater caverns.
The canvas is prepared by applying adhesive and sand in certain areas to provide a rough texture that catches the light. Heavy body, liquid and high flow acrylics are used with the canvas initially on a flat surface and finishing on an easel.

In this painting I hope that you will connect with elements of the coast and allow yourself to encompass the shapes, splashes and marks to complete the journey. Make of them what you will!

Artist Bio

Gerald is a multimedia artist based in South West Australia with paintings represented in private collections in Australia and the UK. Trained as a video lighting cameraman producing programs for Industry and Commerce, Gerald now paints abstracts full time and teaches Impressionist landscape painting in oils with a palette knife.

His influences have come from years of painting out in the landscape surrounded by rich colours, dynamic shadows and brilliant light. Continuing this journey into abstraction provides him with incredible freedom to make thoughtful, deliberate and spontaneous marks on the canvas.

He incorporates layers in mixed media, full bodied and high flow acrylics, sand and glazes, applied with brushes, sponges, rags and palette knives. His approach is totally intuitive, providing an ongoing state of exploration and discovery until a resolve is met. The journey continues.
