Artwork Description

Bunya Mountain Gathering tells the story of the great gatherings held at Bunya Mountain, where Aboriginal groups from surrounding Countries came together when the bunya nuts were ready.

Every three years, people travelled to gather and collect bunya nuts, sharing food, knowledge and stories. These gatherings were also a time for trade, celebration, corroboree and song, bringing different Aboriginal communities together.

The interconnected circles and flowing pathways in the artwork represent the many groups travelling to Bunya Mountain and coming together as one gathering. The painting celebrates the importance of bunya, connection, sharing, ceremony, culture and community.

Artist Bio

since 1993 I have painted professionally and loved every minute of it. My biggest influence in both art and life is my Dad. He was a successful artist, storyteller, community elder and traditional man. Though sadly he has passed now I hold strong my ties to my tribes and respect and protect our stories. Most of my art recounts my family stories passed on by Dad,mum, nan & great grandparents. I come from the Gidabul/Ngarkabul/Widjabul on mums side & Wonnarua/ Dhunghutti on my Dads.
I have my art featured in
•Grand design Australia magazine April 2021
•Settlement International Services 2022
•Muli Muli Warriors Football club Jersey & merchandise design 2021-2022
*St.George Dragons Junior RLFC indigenous jersey design 2022
•BE Sydney 50th anniversary merchandise
•Lismore Base Hospital Indigenous Maternity Ward Mural 2022
• GWNSW Health pamphlet
• Bank of China commission for Barangaroo

I also share my passion for art by facilitating workshops for children teaching them all about my wonderful culture and art. I am very fortunate to work with and mentor vulnerable women both indigenous and non-indigenous through art, listening and sharing. I hold yarning circles with the indigenous women at a womens rehabilitation centre. we are able to hold such a sacred space really creates a safe space for healing.
