Artwork Description

The painting showcases a weathered and hand made urn with abstract detailing on its surface, conveying a sense of organic decay and beauty in imperfection. African pottery serves as a profound source of inspiration in my work, reflecting a harmonious connection to nature and tradition. The organic shapes and earthy tones found in these ceramics resonate deeply within the artwork, evoking a sense of groundedness and authenticity. As materials are shaped by hand, they carry the story of their creation, reminding us of the beauty in individuality and the passage of time. Incorporating these elements into the painting enhances its calming presence, inviting a mindful appreciation of the art and the world around us.

The textured, earthy aesthetic of this canvas painting resembles a handmade craftsmanship, which aligns with the styles of African and indigenous pottery. Perfect for natural and organic interior styles. Hand carved clay pottery painting; distressed style; rough texture; organic decor paintings.

Important note about the colours
Colours vary in different lighting conditions and on different monitors. Great care has been taken to accurately match the colour of the painting. Under daylight it looks more cool neutral grey.

Artist Bio

My Process & Style
I’m a mixed media artist embracing a textured, rustic style of minimalism and abstract realism.
My colour palette leans toward subtle, minimalist hues, grounded in rich greys and muted tones that create a sense of serenity and relaxation. Through contrasting values and layered textures, I aim to craft an atmosphere that feels both aged and contemporary, and also allowing the viewer’s imagination to fill in the spaces I leave open.
My hope is that each piece offers a moment of reflection, an opportunity to connect with the peace within us, a vivid reminder of the real beauty in authenticity and simplicity.

My Inspiration
I grew up in South Africa, and have always be drawn to the rustic charm of hand carved wooden and clay pots. Moreover I was amazed by the remarkable talent and skill of the African locals who sat in the hot sun day after day creating their crafts for mere pittance. My art pays homage to my African heritage and honours indigenous cultures worldwide, celebrating their enduring beauty and the rich stories they share through their art.

How It All Began
I began my creative journey as a professional graphic designer 25 years ago. The move into painting has felt inevitable, a calling. Art keeps drawing me back, and there is no escaping its persuasion over me. It’s more than just creating beautiful pieces; it’s a way to connect with something larger — a sense of purpose that unfolds with each stroke of the brush and the palette knife.
In recent years, I’ve embraced my art with greater intention, taking the leap to become a professional artist. My journey has been one of exploration — experimenting with different styles, subjects, and materials in search of my voice. Finding my unique style was the biggest challenge, but also the most rewarding. To refine my craft, I enrolled with the Milan Art Institute, which gave me the tools and confidence to fully unlock my potential — professionally, mentally, and emotionally. My style brings harmony and elegance to any space, offering art that is as enduring as it is unique.
