My name is Gloria Okkerse and i was born in Sydney and raised in Rose Bay. I am the youngest of three sisters and we are all self taught artists. We grew up with a paintbrush in our hands spending many hours amongst paints in our fathers signwriting Studio. After leaving school i started work as a dental nurse but was missing being creative. I became a florist running a very successsful shop for 10 years, but my desire to paint was constant and paintings displayed were bought by customers and clients. I decided to sell my florist to concentrate on my first love of painting and continued to sell privately.
I Paint from my home based studio primarily in Acrylic, oil and pen. My style and Subjects vary consisting of abstract, figurative, landscape and children's fairy paintings. My inspiration comes from the colour of nature and by the effects of light and shade. Nothing is planned and with a few selected colours i begin to paint. My 2 older sisters (Margaret Benoit in WA) and (Sylvia Hallam in Sydney) are both successful exhibiting artists.
