Oil Paint on canvas
Signed on the back.
In fading light or creeping light of dawn, the rock structures surrounding the Jingemia Cave, assume a rather brooding presence. Perhaps there are echoes of the Aboriginal people who were the earliest custodians of this land. I sense a spiritual presence amongst the rock forms and treat the site with respect. The Cave is in the Watheroo National Park, north of Perth in Western Australia. The Cave and the surrounds are formed by sedimentary sand and limestone deposited long ago when the area was covered by sea. I was inspired to paint the rocks by a number of Cezanne,s paintings. I wanted to capture a sense of the ‘commanding presence’ of the rock structures; a sence of how insignificant one can feel in the face of these structures. I have used a unified palette to help convey the singularity of the whole rather than appreciation of the parts. This is an atmospheric painting and it should be hung in places that encourage meditation.
