Artwork Description

Shipiyan is a slight deviation from my usual inspiration for paintings in the Reform series. Normally my inspiration comes from architecture, but this time it was a hot summer's day, with some jazz music playing.

Shipiyan still retains the characteristics of bold colours and linear shapes, but the application is a little looser than other paintings in the series. A summer haze?

I have drawn on a number of artists in the creation of Shipiyan, including Mondrian, Diebenkorn, Rothko, and Still.

The painting radiates warmth and reflects an abstract version of a hot summer day.

Shipiyan had been signed on the front and is ready to hang. It has been finished off with an ultra-matte varnish. I love the matte varnish on all of my works in the reform series. Not only does it provide protection, but it softens the paint with an almost velvet-like look. Shipiyan is 120cm x 90cm
