The Drift is a large 120cm x 90cm abstract artwork. The Drift is a large minimalist piece with influences from from Mondrian, Rothko, and Motherwell.
Things change throughout our lives. The Drift is a study of change. While we cant determine the scale of the shapes, we can see the point of separation where one red shape appears to drift away from the other.
The concept of one shape drifting away from the other gives a sense of movement to the painting.
I have spent a lot of time preparing the canvas so that the coloured shapes appear almost flat. Through the use of various methods I have built up the surface so that the canvas has been "smoothed out". This effect coupled with the use of a low gloss satin varnish add a sense of depth or weight to the shapes that are displayed.
I have used artist-grade acrylic paints on a high quality 12oz cotton canvas on Eraldo stretcher. I have finished off the artwork with several layers of satin varnish.

A handy way of determining just how this sized painting will work in your space is to use blue tack dots or masking tape on your wall to plot out the border of the painting. This method gives you a realistic impression of how the painting will fit on your wall
