Artwork Description

Walking on the beach in northern Tasmania I met this beautiful ex racing horse and his owner... Basil was his name and he was determined to not go in the water! She tried to coax him in but he wouldn't have a bar of it..... such a character!
I love the seeing horses on the beach, it is such an iconic and superbly romantic subject matter. I'm inspired by Gauguin's colours and Degas magnificent works depicting horses.

Artist Bio

BLUETHUMB BIO

Hi, thank you so much for looking at my art and wanting to know more!

Sunlight, colour, spectacular scenery and the beach all get my creative juices flowing.
A childhood in Fiji surrounded by flowers, fragrance, sun and big skies inspired me to work creatively with art in one way or another, and led me to study for my Bachelor of Visual Art and Fashion Design in Sydney.

Living back in the spectacular North of Tasmania, another island of big skies and dramatic scenery, inspired me to return professionally to my first love: acrylic painting.

I adore explosive colour and expressive brushwork, learning more about artists and their art, the challenge of life drawing, still lifes and especially painting en plein air, outside in the gorgeous landscapes that inspire me, bathed in light, birdsong and feeling the wind.
Exhibiting solidly in Tasmania, I was recently honoured to be shown in the Burnie Regional Gallery.
It was a humbling experience selling and has inspired me to share my art with you on Bluethumb :)

I hope you enjoy the immersion in colour and light and the joy of the natural world.
