Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I live and work from my home studio on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Australia. I have been drawn to art all my life, which has led to me majoring in art at school, studying theatre design at university, and then following my passion for magazines in a creative role, producing photographic shoots. After moving to Australia, I started pursuing drawing and painting full-time. I am a member of the Sunshine Coast Art Group in Buderim, where I spend my Thursday mornings engaging in life drawing sessions.
MY ART
Featuring predominantly figurative paintings and drawings, my work is born from life drawing sessions. Each model who poses in the studio, brings with her (or him) a mood, a personality, and a unique beauty. I endeavour to capture these characteristics through the use of colour (ink washes, pastels and acrylic paint), and line work (pencil and charcoal). My work commences from charcoal or graphite drawings, but instead of being overly concerned with realistic representation, colours and lines become a dialogue in relation to the pose of the model, bringing to life a mood, a memory, or even evoking a dream or a myth that goes beyond the physical characteristics. Sometimes, multiple figures emerge in an imaginary setting such as a troupe of dancers on stage or bathers on a beach. The portrayal becomes a personal interpretation of the subject, which translates to images that at times have a meditative and melancholy quality to them, while others symbolise playfulness, whimsy or fantas
