Mungungo 2

This is a bird's-eye-view inspired by the landscape at Mungungo in the upper Burnett, Queensland. It is an oil on canvas, finished with white edges and intentionally left with paint spills to enhance the visual impact, signed and ready to hang.

The nickname was first used by my uncle when I was a youth. The years of that young stockman and dozer driver are now a distant memory.

I was born in country Queensland and spent my early childhood on a cattle property situated along the Nogo River. I now paint as ‘Greybeard,’ exploring that harsh country that is so familiar to me. The sands of the Nogo and the black ironbarks of the surrounding expanse carry a strong sense of place and personal identity.
