Description

I love painting old buildings and the Metropole Hotel at the top of Burt Street in Boulder WA is a corker of a subject. The Metropole was completed in 1899, a grand addition to the many hotels being established in the goldfields in the late 19th century. Today this grand old hotel is a bit sad and sorry. It is presently closed for renovations and now it is up for sale, so the future of this grade two listed building is questionable. I hope my painting evokes interest in its restoration.

Interestingly, under the floor of the main bar is a mine shaft. It was dug by the early miners so that they could have a drink while working in the mine. They were very enterprising gents those early miners! I reckon no other hotel in Australia can boast this unique feature.

My watercolour painting is framed and glazed. The image size measures 41 cm x 26 cm. The framed work measures 58.5 cm x 43.5 cm x 2 cm. On the wall it weighs 1.9kg
