Artwork Description

Meeting and dealing with people with two face is a challenge in life. Can you believe it or not?. Is that through or false? what is behind a beautiful face? The frustration caused by dealing with these people made me to depict this feeling.

Artist Bio

Born in Tehran, Iran in a house lined with Persian carpet abundant in motifs, Hamid grew his love for patterns and art from a young age being rooted deep in Persian art and culture. Hamid’s parents instilled this love for art throughout his childhood as his father would make carpet motifs in a grid board and his mother would weave carpets out of them as a pastime.
Since he was a child, Hamid was captivated by the fine detail in carpet and decorative tiles that decorate the Persian history, this rich culture and art had deep affection his future creativity.

In 1991, at the age 22, Hamid pursued his studies at the Art and Architecture University in Tehran and graduated in graphic design.
Throughout his degree, Hamid worked for different publications and advertising companies, giving his creativity a more formal approach. Throughout this time his love for art continued to flourish and he designed more than fifty-two book covers and extensive graphic materials for different companies in the span of nine years.

Hamid moved with his family to Australia in 2003 and worked as a designer in a local newspaper where his creativity flourished and his work was first recognised in a country other than his country of origin. Furthering his studies, Hamid undertook visual communication degree at the University of South Australia, Adelaide, graduating with honours.

Returning to his studies again a few years later, Hamid started an animation course in Hamilton Collage in 2006, which progressed to a more advanced course that included undertaking placement at Monkey Stack, one of the most successful animation companies in Adelaide. Hamid was granted an award for the best student animation in the state competition and he found painting the way to be connected to pure art and as a way of expressing his imagination.

His minimalist design conveys his daily life and thoughts. Much of his paintings are focused on humans, animals and the interaction between them. Hamid states that he enjoys depicting an element of drift and wander in his characters’ eyes and he much of his work expresses the human experience of depression in modern day. Hamid’s work has a strong focus on line work with the relationship between lines and colours being one of the most important elements of his work.

The characters in his paintings are a reflection of his passion for the art form in the same way the motifs from his childhood grew his love of art, which has now evolved to express his imagination of life.
