Artwork Description

The Crowning is a bold contemporary artwork that fuses Cubism and Surrealism into a powerful visual narrative of authority, perception, and inner identity. Fragmented forms interlock with dreamlike symbols, creating a figure that feels both constructed and alive — as if assembled from thought, memory, and instinct.
The crowned head hovers above the body like an emblem of consciousness or elevation, suggesting power not bestowed, but realised. Multiple eyes and disjointed limbs hint at heightened awareness and fractured realities, while symbolic elements embedded within the figure evoke growth, creativity, and human control over chaos. The composition invites the viewer to question where true leadership begins — externally, or within.
Rendered in acrylic paints and oil pastel on canvas, the work uses confident linework and a vibrant yet balanced palette to guide the eye across the surface. Each geometric section feels deliberate, yet playful, giving the painting a dynamic energy that continues to reveal new details over time.
The Crowning is a statement piece — ideal for collectors drawn to modern figurative art, symbolic storytelling, and works that spark conversation. It stands as a visual reminder that power, identity, and self-awareness are assembled, not inherited. The painting was completed for my entry into the Archibald Prize painting award as I ama yearly contender for the prestigious art award. Framed in a black float frame, signed and certificate of authenticity.
