90% marine animals caught and died in NSW shark nets during the past summer were non target species (whales, dolphins, turtles, endangered sharks, seals etc). Nets in the ocean are one the biggest dangers our ocean life face and make up half of plastic in the ocean, killing millions of species every year and have been proven to be ineffective at protecting the public and are an out of date โsolutionโ. If you look closely at this painting you will see a dolphin missing her fluke, this dolphins name is winter. She was caught in the netting on a crab trap and had to have her tail amputated.
This painting is dedicated to marine life around the world, all living with the constant threat of net entanglement.
