I was inspired to paint this piece due to the 2019/2020 bushfires. While our skies were blanketed with smoke for months on end I was constantly reminded of all our poor innocent wildlife that was being sacrificed everyday. This bushfire period was by far the worst I recall in my lifetime and was devasting to our flora and fauna. We were safe where we lived but I felt helpless and I wished I could do more to help, so I used my heavy heart to compile this painting and express how I felt.
The idea for this painting came to me one night in my sleep. I was woken with the idea of painting distant smouldering embers with smoke in the background and a boundary of where the fires burnt to, hoping alot of animals can escape to some untouched ground. The foreground contains just some of our species of native animals who I felt I wanted to pay tribute to, along with some of the untouched flora. I wanted to put all of these animals together in one piece to show they are all going through this devastating time together but also to resemble some of our iconic Australian wildlife.
This piece is a one off original and possibly my favourite piece so far.
Comes with a custom hand made wrap around timber frame in Tasmanian Oak, washed in black paint and varnished to compliment the painting.
Painting has a coat of clear protective varnish.
All of my paintings have an extremely high level of attention to detail. When studying a subject I analyse every single aspect of it, including texture, shine, reflection, shadows etc. When most people view my art in person for the first time they usually comment on how much detail is in it and how it looks so much better in person.
