Artwork Description

The natural color of Flamingos is white or grey. Rather boring don't you think? So very lucky they eat algae, brine shrimp and other crustaceans that contain carotenoids that turn their feathers into a stunning pink. When I cam across this black square canvas I immediately thought of painting a bright, colour full pink flamingo. I used the mark making technique where you place hues onto the canvas without mixing them prior or on the surface. It is a stunning process, using the direction of your brushstrokes or drawing tool to intentionally lead the eye in a specific way.

This painting is unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Artist Bio

In 1988, Heidi fell in love with Australia’s laid-back lifestyle and breathtaking natural landscapes after migrating from Zürich, Switzerland. Drawn to the country’s vast openness and striking beauty, she began exploring and interpreting its unique environments through art. Her work, primarily in oil paintings and more recently in acrylic and mixed media, reflects her deep connection to the world around her.

Now based in Brisbane/Meanjin, Heidi finds inspiration in the leafy bushlands and vibrant wildlife surrounding her home. Her art melds these local landscapes with her experiences from diverse countries and cultures, bringing her immense joy. Embracing the ever-changing nature of life, she weaves its various facets into her constantly evolving artistic expressions. Each piece is imbued with emotional and sentimental depth, and her latest series explores themes of spirit animals and ancient, sacred landscapes encountered during her travels. She particularly loves to paint birds as they represent a deep connection between the sky and earth.

Heidi paints most days in her home studio, but she also treasures time spent immersed in nature. Particularly drawn to rivers and waterways, she seeks out their deep, ancient energies, often sketching on-site to capture the essence of these places for future works. Her art is a celebration of life, connection, and the profound beauty of the natural world.

When she does not paint she takes time out to reflect on things past, present and future which guide her in her ever evolving art journey.
