Heidi’s creative expression focuses on compositions of still life and landscapes local to her home in the Margaret River Region of WA. Heidi revels in transposing what she sees into painted form. Light streaming through clouds or reflecting off waves or bark beckon her to paint at every opportunity. Her work is about tonal impressionism; taking the real and giving it texture, feeling and atmosphere. Her hope is that her work allows people to feel a sense of joy and peace. Realistic from a distance and painterly when viewed up close. Her artistic journey began 10 years ago when she received tuition from a student of David Moore, a member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society. After 6 life changing lessons, Heidi has been exploring art through a new lens focused on tone. She believes that light and contrast is what makes art interesting and beautiful. Heidi’s work is known for a clean, calm and delicious colour palette and handles oils differently, with many being surprised that that is her main medium as it has a lightness about it not always associated with oils. Oils are her favourite medium, loved for their lustre, how they blend and her love for working wet on wet and painting quickly and energetically when outdoors. Heidi’s favourite thing about painting is seeing people have emotional responses to her work; beaches where memories were made and objects that stir up personal connections. Its in that moment that she realises she was meant to paint that subject just for them.
Her recent focus includes a new series of beautiful local South West landscapes, as well as some more light-filled still life pieces. When not painting en plein air (outdoors), you'll find Heidi painting at her studio at Flametree Winery, often with a glass of red in hand if the time is right! Her work is also represented locally at The Studio Gallery and Bistro, Yallingup and is held in private collections around Australia, England and Hong Kong.
