Leaving Copley

This is a continuation of the Desert Series of works, we were heading to Copley and instantly I was
drawn to the landscape created by the Leigh Creek Coal mine.
The layers of mud stone, silt stone, numerous coal layers and fine grained sand stone was for really very beautiful from an artistic point of view.
This painting can be hung portrait or landscape.

No painting is without challenges, I dare not throw a layer of paint on the canvas and say its complete!
Even when I love the spontaneous effect of that first layer.
The canvas deserves my attention and intention, to be worked on and to go through the process of layering paint, scratching it back almost to the point of disaster, before returning it back to life.
Paintings need to evolve over the period of time, capturing my changing moods. Quite often the final result surprises me and the fine line of knowing when to walk away is not always apparent.
