Artwork Description

"sucked in" is the laughable and almost deadly moment that I was sucked into a rockpool and spat up on some rocks in a vomit of water burn and seaweed and adrenaline.
The infinite power and delicacy of nature and our bodies made of water and salt so ill equipped for the ocean and yet it heals us even in its turbulence. Unexpected reminders of life, living and our connection to it all. I wanted to create the fantasy of oneness to the sea and created my imagined "ocean cells" capturing the darkness and lightness using layers of pigment to emulate sunlight and ink to deepen the depths of the lowlights.

water burns.
sea slumbering and a momentary slip.
sucked way down under,
bubbling back up...
see the sun,
new air in lungs.
can't help but think...could've been me done.

Artist Bio

Heironymous bounced around the Newcastle and the Central Coast area before landing their teenage years in a chicken shit rural blip of nowhere. Growing up wild and connected with nature as a way of healing has shaped the themes and perspectives of the subject matter.

The artist now spends most days working and living life in the inner west of Sydney making art and poetry in their art shed with a dog named Beans.

The artist describes their process as “a self-administered therapy through curiosity and experimentation medicated by colours and patterns.” Many of the artist’s creations are inspired by the beauty of science and existentialism of things of microscopic importance in a macroscopic world.

Heironymous’s runaway imagination, pop-drag influences and undiagnosed ADHD are layered into each multimedia painting through layers of intentional chaos and colour.

Each narrative is revealed through the use of texture, contrast and intricate detailing that harmonises the untamed and intuitive abstract stylings of each painting.
