When I made this painting, I was totally captivated by the handmade octopus doll my wife made. It was so darn adorable and enigmatic that I knew I had to express that feeling through my artwork.
Right in the middle of the painting, that red-and-white striped octopus doll stands out like some strange sea creature, flaunting its seductive tentacles and deep-set eyes. Its knitted body looks so fluffy and cozy that you just want to reach out and touch it, which creates this weird contrast with the slippery image that octopuses are often associated with.
For the background, I went with black to really make the colors and shapes of the octopus doll pop. I pictured it as if it were sitting on a rock at the bottom of the ocean, gazing up at the light and motion on the surface, and patiently waiting for its next adventure.
The whole picture is about creating and exploring, and I really hope this cute little octopus doll can spark people's curiosity and imagination, inspiring them to venture into this mysterious world.
