This is a commissioned painting for a gallery in Melbourne of the beautiful Treasury Gardens in autumn. It is aiming to capture the vibrant colours and tranquility of the gardens. The dark branches of the tree with its yellow leaves contrast with the many colours of the changing foliage of the garden. I wanted to depict the colours like a jeweled treasure and the fallen leaves on the water like coins in a treasure box. In addition, I wanted to capture the serenity of the gardens with the reflections and stillness of the water and the subtle play of light coming into the garden. I loved painting this image and showing the contrasting colours and shapes within the beautiful gardens.
