Artwork Description

This piece was created at a time where I needed to create aesthetic distance from feelings of overwhelm. It was created over several days, set aside and revisited. I named it "Resilience" because in the process of revisiting, adding and growing the painting further, so too did my relationship with my emotional world.

I used a variety of paints, oil pastels, paint markers, gel pens to add many small details to balance out the larger botanical shapes. Some of the small details have metallic colours that glint in the light and capture the viewer's interest. The piece has depth from the layers of colour in the background. Also note the contrast between shapes that are less defined, versus other well-defined marks.

Artist Bio

I'm a self-taught artist based in Adelaide. After seeing an ad for an online painting course, I bit the bullet and from that point on started painting at every opportunity. I quickly discovered my favourite mediums: acrylic paint, oil pastels, soft pastels and markers of all kinds. I mainly paint on paper and canvas.

"I paint, therefore I am."

I paint because I need to. I paint to express and process emotions, and to support my mental health. I paint for joy and play and discovery. I believe everyone should create, using whatever medium resonates with them. Creativity, to me, is a source of individual and collective well-being that is largely untapped in western culture. Even in piercing expressions of pain, beauty can be found.

It is my hope that my paintings can add to a spirit of joy, discovery and creativity into your home.
