This painting is part of my Humourless Tumours series, which delves into recurring patterns and processes present during the growth of systems, both man-made and in nature. It has evolved and been refined over the years, with no likely end point, since the cycle of growth and decay is continuous for every one of us.

Hendrik is a professional illustrator, producing most of his work for film and television. Based in Sydney, he has exhibited in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. For the past decade, he has focused on commercial illustration and production design work, including concept design on major feature films as well as creating all the illustrations all nine seasons of The Great Australian Bake Off (2026 AACTA Winner, Best Reality Program).

Being consistently busy with commercial art has allowed greater freedom to explore and refine his personal work without pressure or competition.
