Hilary is a part-time painter, full-time teacher who uses what remains of her free time after lesson plans to follow her passion for art. She loves exploring the beauty of the natural landscape through her paintings, which range from wide-sweeping landscapes to more intimate explorations of light and shade in close ups of gum trees, beach treasures, and water. Hilary uses a range of mediums to explore different subjects, trying to match the qualities of the paint to the atmosphere of the scene- soft pastels to catch the subtle, earthy tones of the Australian bush; watercolours to mirror the luminescent sparkle of the sea or a spring sky; acrylics to accentuate the dramatic edges of rocks and trees; alcohol inks to capture the abstract flow and patterns in water. Her work aims to excite curiosity and wonder at the diversity of the environment, hoping to encourage viewers to go out and look more closely at ordinary landscapes and treasure what's around us.
