Artwork Description

An ode to Sydney, this mini painting is part of a collection 'Sydney in November'. One of three mini artworks, created in acrylic on Beechwood block. These cheerful little Sydney Harbour views are a burst of Aussie sunshine, viewing Circular Quay and the inconic Sydney Opera House past the purple 💜 Jacaranda trees. Sections of the natural base are intentionally revealed in the work to contrast with the Ultramarine Blue 💙 shadows, and silhouettes of figures in the landscape. inspired by Brett Whitely and the artist's love of Matisse, created after a day trip around some hidden lane ways around Sydney Harbour.

Artist Bio

Love ocean inspired artwork? Welcome to a world of dramatic light, confident mark-making and colour that will engage & delight your senses

…meet Holly Mahoney, a Sydney-based visual artist known for figurative and landscape works on paper and canvas. Based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the ocean and the deep blue a recurring theme in her artwork.

The Northern Beaches on Sydney's doorstep provide a vast source of natural inspiration. Many of Holly's works are an exploration of the coast, rockpools, and the shoreline. Regardless of medium or theme, the joy of mark-making is central to all of Holly's art. Her artwork encourages an emotive response to the movement, colour, and light captured in her gestural marks.

In her own unique style, Holly uses oil or acrylic or mixed media, including (but not limited to) charcoal, pastel, ink, acrylic, and oil paint/oil sticks in her work. Although formally trained with a Fine Art degree, her process is largely intuitive and gestural with marks often created with anything to hand for the desired effect from - artist paint brush, exterior house paint brushes, a finger dab, or a drawing pin - whatever is to hand to create the instinctual mark as an immediate response. Each of Holly's artworks consist of layers, which create intrigue that take the viewer on a journey as to how she interprets the world.

Holly strives to imbue each mark with a sense of optimism and honesty that will continue to engage the viewer to return to a piece time, and time again. Allowing you, as the art collector (or your lucky gift receipent), to enjoy the artwork for many, many years.
