Artwork Description

History reminds us that humanity is one body; pain in one part affects us all.

This collection is inspired by my personal experiences as an Iranian woman. Through visual protest, I aim to challenge the historical narratives and flawed cultural traditions that have long oppressed Middle Eastern societies, especially women.

At its core, it examines the intersection of political totalitarianism and rigid religious justice, where dissent is often silenced with violence. Yet, despite these harsh realities, the light of peace in my heart remains undiminished, carried forward with unwavering determination.

Artist Bio

My name is Homa, I’m a Melbourne-based visual artist, and my creative journey began in 2000. I first studied at a small art studio and later earned a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Applied Science and Technology in Mashhad, Iran. While I have a formal background in design, my true passion has always been hands-on material exploration—an approach that continues to shape my work today.

My practice spans painting, relief sculpture, and a four-year exploration of fashion design. I love experimenting with materials and allowing their natural qualities to guide the creative process. For me, making art feels like discovering the world through a child’s eyes—each piece speaks in its own voice, yet fits into a larger, harmonious whole.

Some of my work reflects over two decades of artistic experience, while other pieces emerge from my ongoing curiosity and passion for learning. I believe the process is just as important as the final result, and I often share not only completed works but also my sketches, trials, and behind-the-scenes experiments.

Materials I work with include oil and acrylic paints, Ecoline, alcohol ink, resin, recycled paper and newspapers, carpet weaving yarns, wood, tree branches, plaster, and more.
