On leaving secondary school Hugh trained as an apprentice and spent the evenings studying Engineering. This eventually lead to a degree with further studying overseas.
An early interest in drawing whet his appetite for landscapes and seascapes but it was many years before Hugh could indulge any further interest due to his establishing an Engineering business..
Hugh’s particular interest in the Australian landscape using watercolour as the medium has been the main focus of his painting and in particular the colours and textures of the Australian bush.
Several journeys to the Pilbara, Central Australia and the Flinders Ranges provided a vast contrast of ochres and reds against the greens and greys of the more Southern States.
Hugh has won numerous awards for watercolour painting and has had many successful shows. His work is represented in many private collections both here and overseas.
