Malibu Pier Ed. 2 of 10

Living in California for ten years I was fascinated by the piers almost every beach there has - jutting out into the pacific ocean they were originally utilitarian but with the rise of modern shipping they have become mostly quaint tourist attractions. Photographed on 4x5 polaroid film and scanned, these images still bear the marks of the polaroid chemistry and its unique colour palette.

A photographer for thirty years, my commercial life has often intersected with my artistic life, from early work for The Sydney Theatre Company to more recent efforts for The Sydney Dance Company and The Australian Ballet. Whereas most clients require a clarity of meaning in their imagery my personal work tends more to ambiguity and mystery. I have lived in London, New Orleans and most recently Los Angeles but am now back in my hometown of Sydney.
