Artwork Description

This painting explores the dry and vast Australian outback landscape with deep response to its own history. The red solid land contracted with green shrubs gives me an emotional and unreal vision. The panoramic view from the balcony, where the land horizon and sky meet, is my first beautiful impression of the Australian outback landscape. The vivid colours and first impression is to express feelings of hot and thirsty atmosphere.

Artist Bio

I am South Korea born artist based in Sydney Australia. I graduated with a Master degree of Visual Arts, painting(Sydney University), and studied fashion and textile as well. I worked as a freelance artist and designer. As an aspiring artist, I had exhibitions in Australia and South Korea.
I am immensely fascinated and inquisitive about Australia's idiosyncratic natural environment, like how it has impacted the people around. Moreover, the legends behind the land history gave me the most inspiration for my works. So, I took a lot of photos that caught my eyes/drew my attention. Then the images/photos were modified or simplified in shape and developed with various colours to accentuate my first impression of sceneries.

I also depict ordinary objects in an unusual context and these objects come from everyday life. I am interested in creating unusual contexts with modern subjects or traditional scenes in order to boost up the imagination. My practice also aims to bring surreal imagination to the audience with poetic imagery. I like to mix my inspirations and objects to create my own stories of the painting, and develop a connection between an artist and audiences with the imagination. But I do not want people limiting their imagination rather than encouraging creating their own stories. The painting is just visual images with no particular messages.

What's more, my uniqueness about my work is that I love to play with composition, re-shape objects, and play with colours. Most of my paintings are filled with bright and vibrant colours, and that's what I tried to deliver as the first impression of the pictures. So, I chose colours very carefully to develop the quality of the painting.
