The 'search for form' is my overriding motivation when creating art. The discovery of the new, unseen image. Cassini was plummeting into Saturn after years of orbiting and mapping the Saturnian rings, moons and the cloud surface of Saturn. 350 years before this, the journey to the Southern Ocean was equally as daunting and groundbreaking in its time. How has our perception of time and space changed since the 1700's? Or hasn't it? These thoughts were occupying my mind whilst painting this image. They gave important context to what I was seeking at that moment - a search of discovery through my own inner space for non-contextual form.
