Artwork Description

Dirk Hartog on the ship ‘Eendracht” sighted the coast of WA in 1616. He named this new land “Eendarchtland” after his vessel. I imagine they were hoping to find a fertile green land as in the painting, but were probably disappointed to see that the coast was harsh and dry. Nevertheless the name was the one used for 28 years.

Artist Bio

I completed a Diploma of. Art at Claremont Art School as well as a Degree in Fine Art from Curtin University. Since then I have been painting in oils regularly, although sometimes i branch out into drawing in other mediums such as oil pastels or charcoal.

My work speaks of nurturing, fertility and abundance. It is symbolic of our ideal interrelationships with each other and the world in general. I am interested in the harmony between people both in the domestic arena and further afield Sometimes I express myself in a realistic manner, at other times i prefer to take an emotional approach and show my feelings and observations in a more abstract fashion.

Colour is important to me as I generally attempt to paint in a way which I find aesthetically harmonious , accessible and pleasing to the eye. Being interested in the positive aspects of our lives I prefer to paint in a manner which conveys an optimistic message to the viewer.

As a mother of 4 (now grown ups) i have a vested interest in the domestic realm but at times tries to veer away from this area!
