Artwork Description

This painting is of Shingai Shoniwa. This woman is originally from Zimbabwe and is known for her musical career in a band called The Noisettes. Her music played on repeat in my studio as I painted her. She has always believed in being herself, being brave and embracing what has made her different, particular in an industry where image is very manufactured and controlled. And, this is what I love about her and why I felt the need to paint my version of Shingai.

Hi there.
I am a Melbourne based artist I have been painting since I was about three years old. (Yes, my mother still has my very first painting on canvas in a little gold frame). The desire to paint and create is part of my DNA. Whilst I have enjoyed experimenting with different mediums and subject matter over the years, my focus has largely been portraiture and abstract . I love painting portraits of women whose features and personal stories inspire me. These paintings seek to highlight each woman's natural beauty and life story.
