Artwork Description

The Capertee Valley, just west of the Blue Mountains, is vast and spectacular. In the valley, at the small village of Glen Davis you can find the remains of an old shale mine and in the grounds are a couple of lovely old houses perfect for a weekend away. At certain times of the year you will be delighted when gorgeous mists appear and hug the scenery.

It was on one such weekend that I had the chance to wander around in the mist with my camera looking for inspiration and knowing that I would find something. On days like this I know I can make magic with my camera. It’s a wonderful feeling.

This old tree has probably been there for generations and with autumn in the air and mist hanging around, it made the perfect subject.

I used a lensbaby lens to create a soft image and then had fun on my computer creating something beautiful that I could frame to hang on a wall.

This is one of my favourite images that frames beautifully as a either a small print for that perfect spot or as a larger art piece as a feature in a room.

Artist Bio

My passion for photography was finally unleashed when I retired from education in 2010. Since then my knowledge and my style have developed considerably. I have had many opportunities through courses, workshops, mentoring, travel and exhibitions to nurture my passion for photography.

My style is more impressionism than realism. My passion is seascapes.

I decided a number of years ago that the seascapes I wanted to create would be more painterly, perhaps more gentle. I use a variety of techniques to make my images but the core of my work is created in camera. I use post processing to add another dimension and to resolve the image.

My work is not limited to seascapes. As a Blue Mountains resident, I have found a way of interpreting my local landscape. I don’t try to compete in style with the amazing landscape photographers who I admire, rather I try to put my own emphasis on the images I choose to capture. For the past 4 years I have had a relatively large body of work at the Blackheath Hub where my work became known. I am active in the Mtns Made community and I have valued getting to know other artists in my local area. I have been involved in a number of group photography exhibitions including in the Palm House, Botanic Gardens Sydney; Everglades, Leura; Braemar in Springwood; National Parks Govetts Leap Blackheath.

I print most of my own work in my home studio on my Epson large format using archival papers and inks. The work featured initially on Bluethumb is some of my local Blue Mountains and rural scenes.
