This series of photographs was created during a self-discovery trip to Hong Kong.
It is inspired by geometric shapes, repetition, human interaction with built environment, overwhelming density and the impact on our feelings and functioning when surrounded by glass, steel and concrete.

Artist Bio

Irma Calabrese is a Lithuanian-born, Sydney-based set / production designer, artist and illustrator whose artworks are intricate, intriguing, minimalistic and often sensual.
She studied many forms of art making through tertiary studies in Set Design, Jewellery and Interior Design and became most drawn to ink as the main medium for her work still whilst studying at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts in Lithuania. She also developed a strong interest in photography once moved to Australia in 2004.
Inspired by travel, nature, primitive cultures, symbols, shadow puppetry, geometric and organic shapes, human psychology and interaction, her latest work is monochromatic single continuous line ink drawings. The themes of displacement, isolation, attachment, intimacy and afterlife are often present. Her work is held in private collections in Australia, Europe and the United States.
