As part of the "Agapanthus," series, 'At Sunrise,' was inspired by my countless summers spent in Mudgee, regional NSW. The work was created through many long, hot summer evenings as the light, colours, textures, sounds and smells shifted throughout the afternoons. Over the years exposed to flood and drought, the visceral atmosphere represents fluidity and liveliness of Country and landscape; the agapanthus resonating as a motif of resilience of Country.
Playful in nature, various works within the series bring vibrancy and atmosphere to the spaces they inhabit. Varied textures, layers and colours illuminate the depth and complexities of Country as a living and breathing entity. Recycled materials (canvas, frame, cardboard) are sourced ethically and reused to reduce waste and create a unique and authentic piece. Acyclic and mixed medium on stretched canvas.
