Artwork Description

Linocut Print on paper

Signed and numbered on the front.

I adore the voluptuous substance of the pomegranate. Their full, round and slightly facetted shape, the intense colour of the skin and the rich sparkling disorganised intensity of the arils inside. They hold centre stage in many traditional cultures at the time of births, deaths and marriages where they are used in ritual rights of passage. I have been depicting them for over 30 years.

All art by J Wilkinson

A large sand dune on Stradbroke Island after the fires. The sand is covered in stark white ash. I did not want to paint black burnt grass trees, so I made them blue and turquoise in defiance if the destruction. Fire has a regenerative function so the grass trees survive. The painting is painted on the sides, underneath and on top and is intended to hang as is. No external frame is intended but up to the buyer to add one if desired.A line if white ghost gums stand in front of the rising landscape behind them. The colours are soft and warm and give a nostalgic glow. The colours include mauves, gold, hints of ochre and rust. A collection of 12 separate collagraph plates individually inked and set in a grid format. Selectively handcoloured with watercolour ink. Black and white linoprint in a square format. It is handcoloured in sky blue and variations of yellow watercolour.
