Welcome to my Bluethumb collection. I am an artist whose work reflects my interest in fauna and natural history. Like so many Australians, I have a strong affinity with the unique landscape and wildlife of our country. I love the bushland, harbour and coast in the vicinity of my home and I feel driven to share the joy that it inspires as a celebration of Australia’s biodiversity.
My current practice centres largely around sculpture and has evolved from my ongoing study of carving in various mediums. I was a finalist in the Warringah Art Prize and received a Highly Commended award for a rope sculpture, “Downward Facing Dog”. Another of my rope sculptures “Single Seal” was selected for the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden Sculpture Walk. Between 2022 and 2025, ten of my ceramic, wood and stone sculptures have been selected for the Sculptures in the Garden exhibition at Rosby Estate, Mudgee. In 2024 I was selected for the Lumiere Festival of Sculpture and Light .
Recently, I was a finalist in the Hunter's Hill Art Prize for a landscape painting "Appletree Flat - the road to Mudgee". I am currently enjoying entering competitions and exhibiting my paintings that include both acrylic and watercolour works. My paintings frequently complement my sculptures, giving me the opportunity to focus all my attention on the form of the subject as I am working in both mediums. Videos and photos charting the progress of my art can be found at Bongoartworks on Instagram.
