I've loved painting all my life but have never painted to sell; until now.
Years ago I was told by an art teacher that what I loved to paint wasn't 'true' art and that I should stick with painting people and landscapes because that is what true art is. The young, naive me listened to this person and hence I stopped seeing painting as a career & got a trade and worked for the next 20 odd years doing a normal job and only painted in my spare time for myself painting what I loved. I took some time off to 'discover' who I was and ended up in the N.T where I spent a few years watching some amazing aboriginal artists paint daily. One day I told him I used to paint regularly but stopped when my above teacher told me what I painted wasn't 'true' art . He proceeded to give me a canvas and some paints and asked me to paint a picture of what I loved to paint for him. Now this guy is a well know artist and I thought he was just amusing me..the time was coming for me to leave the N.T and he told me to drop in to his home before I did to say goodbye. The day came when I decided to unexpectedly drop into his home to say farewell and upon walking in there hanging was on his wall were not one but two of my paintings. I'm not ashamed to admit; I cried. He told me he thought I was talented and that he loved my work and then said to me 'Some people buy my works for up to $20,000 and then some of my works don't sell for much less & when I started out it didn't sell at all ,but I never stopped painting because it's what I love to do - I like your art and some other people will and then some other people won't but it's important that you paint what you love and not what you think you should paint.
Fast forward and here I am putting my art out there to sell for the very first time. I know some of you will love it and some won't and I'm ok with that for I am painting what I love to paint....finally.
I love abstract, textures and bring color indoors - my paintings can take up to 4 weeks to complete and the final touches are coatings of high gloss vanish to not only protect my paintings but to make the colors more vibrant. Some of my art work comes framed and some the edges are painted all round hence there's no need to have them framed but you can if you wish. I hope you enjoy my work.
