Jacinta Heffernan is a fibre artist belonging to the Pitjantjatjara language and cultural group, and lives in the remote community of Pukatja in South Australia. Jacinta began weaving in February 2020 whilst on a trip to Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in the Northern Territory. During the trip she spent time learning to weave with her mother and fellow Tjanpi artist, Yuminia Kenta. Jacinta's sister, Noreen Heffernan, is also an accomplished Tjanpi weaver. Jacinta is inspired by the animals in Central Australia, weaving sculptures of many kinds found in the desert such as kamula (camels), tinkas (lizards), tjilkamarta (echidnas), and tangki (donkeys). Her work is characterised by brightly coloured wool, minarri (grass) and raffia.
