Artwork Description

This piece of art is inspired by the times my grandparents would take us kids out bush to learn the bush skills of hunting for goannas. My grandmother would find them sometimes in their burrows which would be hidden amongst the spinifex and grasses throughout the country.

Artist Bio

I am Eastern Arrente/Murray woman born in Mount Isa, North Queensland with family connections into the Northern Territory and North Queensland.

Some of my artwork's are stories that were told by grandmother and family members. My grandparents would take us “kids” out bush learning to hunt, dig for soak wells (looking for water), gather bush foods and fruits that were in season as she wanted us “kids” to be able to survive if you got stranded in the bush. She would also teach us about the bush medicines, their purpose and how to find them in the bush. She would also share and tell us stories about herself and her family growing up on her Country. The interest of art was also captured by watching my Aunt paint throughout my childhood and adult life; she would create beautiful art on ceramics and canvas in which she still does today.
