Mango and stripey plate

This piece is a small still life painting done in my dining room. I like to set up a simple still life with what I have in my house and paint the light and tone I see. This can be a intense process as I scrutinise the forms in front of me! This one was all about the light hitting the mango and the lines on the plate.

I am inspired by form, light, colour and pattern. I paint and draw because I enjoy it and want to record what I see that’s beautiful. I work as well and find that small paintings help me to keep painting in the gaps between my job and family life. Small paintings are also easy to post! I complete each painting in one session, always working from life.
