This big artwork allows you to come in close and experience the joy of shapes and colours inspired by aquatic, molecular and microscopic life. The forms and their arrangement are intended to make visual vibrations to create enjoyment and delight in the viewer.
I loved using this colour palette. The jewel like ultra-marine blues and teal hues, stunning burnt orange and the sharp contrast of the fluffy whites and deep greens and violet working together to create the wonderful other-worldliness of the waters of life and our oceans.
Coastal life thrills me. Sea-life amazes me. All the wondrous creatures and the multi-layered landscapes beneath the surface of water. It is a place of beauty, comfort, discovery and otherworldliness. I find these things beautiful and soothing just like creating art.
The organic shapes and motifs I use allude to all the tiny fragments of the universe and patterns of life and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew in and by the sea. Bioluminescent organisms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of sea creatures from my memories of Snorkelling around the back beach at Flinders, Australia. All these things I think about and look at when I am creating these paintings. There is also a direct inspiration and reference to the recent spectacular event of coral spawning (blooming) on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
'Aqua Vitae - Reef Bloom' can be viewed as minuscule cell life just as easily as an underwater sea garden with drifting corals and anemone blooms. Ultimately the paintings are about our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous building blocks of life. The hope is that the paintings trigger a beautiful uplifting and contemplative experience for the viewer. An experience that also reminds us of the beauty in, and of our important relationship to, the fragile natural world.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls interest and a splash of colour for years to come.

I have tried to keep the prices of my paintings lower than usual due to the effect of Corona Virus on the world economy and my income. I am hoping it helps some buyers to beautify their homes in this current situation and be able to support a sole trader - artist (that's me), at the same time.
Prices will return to normal when the world does.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. She has gained an extensive knowledge of Art, quality art materials, techniques and theory from working closely within the arts industries and in her own art practice. Jacquelyn works full time from her studio on the Melbourne fringe. She has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. Many of the key themes in her work have been informed by her interest in water, nature, science, the environment and the domain of medicine.
