Life enlarged. Molecular vibrations. Exploring the most miniscule fragments of the universe. This is what I do in my art practice.
In this painting I am also making the connections between my microscopic cellular forms and man-made patterns. I utilised lace in the creation of surface of this work as it has this rich cellular feel as well as creating a powerful visual dynamic. The beautiful delicate designs in lace are created by a similar growth pattern to life itself. Both forms grow from one central point outwards, cell-by-cell, stitch by stitch. I was thinking how beautiful this is, poetically and visually, but also how it is intrinsically connected to all forms of life.
Here the pale hues and delicate patterning of the lace plays a lovely contrast to the robust vivid hues of the molecular forms as they bounce and pulsate around in their colour field.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls style and finesse with a splash of colour for years to come.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. She has gained an extensive knowledge of Art, quality art materials, techniques and theory from working closely within the arts industries and in her own art practice. Jacquelyn works full time from her studio on the Melbourne fringe. She has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. Many of the key themes in her work have been informed by her interest in water, nature, science and the domain of medicine.
