Quietly chic and elegant I have gone a little minimalist on this painting without losing a sense of joy and movement.
The calm subdued palette with subtle blue-greys and varied whites creates a shimmer cross the surface. A gentle reminder of the effervescence contained within the waters of life.
This painting does belong in my ‘Life Enlarged’ Series inspired by my love and the profound beauty I see in microscopic-worlds, the divine in the most miniscule, and all things water. The gentle flow of water, invisible under currents, drifts, ebbs and flows. I find these things beautiful and soothing just like creating art.
This painting has a very textural tactile feel as I added muslin cloth directly onto the canvas surface giving the whole surface a deep delicate ambiance. I used the muslin as a conceptual connection to represent healing and nurture of the environment on a microscopic scale. The sophisticated black background creates a kind of otherworldly tranquillity, the perfect backdrop for the fragile fragments of nature and cell-like forms drifting across the surface. It is a meditative piece reminiscent of the soul at rest.
'I feel like I am gently floating like jelly-fish' is a lovely comment I so often receive from this series.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls style, finesse and with a space for contemplation for years to come.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. She has gained an extensive knowledge of Art, quality art materials, techniques and theory from working closely within the arts industries and in her own art practice. Jacquelyn works full time from her studio on the Melbourne fringe. She has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. Many of the key themes in her work have been informed by her interest in water, nature, science, the environment and the domain of medicine.
