Ned Kelly was 10 years old when he saved a boy (Richard Shelton) from drowning in Hughs Creek, Victoria. He was presented with a Green Sash from the boys father (Esau Shelton) in recognition for his bravery. Ned Kelly was wearing the sash under his armour during the siege at the Glenrowan Hotel in 1880. Ned Kelly was captured after being shot while the other three gang members died in the shootout. Ned Kelly was sentenced to death on 11th Nov 1880.
